theresa made me post this

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Edwin McCain cut his hair. :o(

I have no words.

My turn !

  • Have you ever licked the back of a CD to try to get it to work? yes.
  • Ever been in a car wreck? Once or twice. I totalled a mercury Lynx when I was 16 because some jackass had his turn signal on, but wasn't turning. Lesson learned, never trust a turn signal. Then when I was 18 , taking the South Willow St exit off 293 the car behind me had a complete brake failure and rear ended my maxima causing about 3k in damages. When I was 20 I lost control in a snow storm and put my brand new S-10 pickup into a tree. Then at 25 driving to work in my ranger pickup from T's house on 93 an Audi I was passing lost his front wheel and it rolled in front of me, I ran it over and screwed up my front end pretty bad.
  • Were you popular in high school? negative ghostrider
  • Have you ever been on a blind date? yes. and we're getting married!!! good answer T-dawg !
  • Do you have any friends that you've known for 10 years or more? one or two
  • Have you ever made a mistake? Oh man, I've made a few...
  • Are you a good tipper? 20% unless you're absolutely horrible.
  • What the most you have spent for a haircut? I think it was about $20.
  • What song do you want played at your funeral? Not sure I really care, as I will be dead. Maybe prince ? I want you all to party like it's 19.99
  • Beatles or Stones? the Beatles
  • Do you have any phobias? large insects scare me. Luckily, AZ has LOTS of them.
  • If you were an animal, what would you be? I'd like to be a dog.
  • Would you rather be blind or deaf? Deaf. I'd rather be able to see things, than hear them. Plus I could still drive.
  • Do you have any special talents? I have the worst smelling gas in the world...ask T
  • What do you do as soon as you walk in the house? drop my keys, wallet, cellphone and sunglasses on the table in the dining room.
  • Do you prefer horror or comedy? comedy.
  • What is your favorite sport to watch? Motorcycle Racing
  • Are you named after anyone? Probably Joseph and Peter from the Bible.
  • Do you sing in the shower? OMG like totally !!!!!!
  • What is your favorite holiday? Thanksgiving, Easter, anytime family gets together and eats without having to buy presents !! Halloween is fun too. I think halloween should be a weekend long event. Or maybe a full week
  • Have you ever caught a fish? a few...once I even hooked myself.

OK, I think July will definitely be the most blogtastic month ever !

Oh Yeah, did you guys notice the countdown timer to the right ? My sister Jen is giving me her left kidney October 7th !!! woooohooooooo !

beating the quota

Basically, my only reason for writing this blog is because it's the last day of July, and I wanted to make July the month with the most blogs so far.

I'm weird...I know, I know.

Here are some more weird things about me (I know...can't believe there are MORE, can you?):
  • Have you ever licked the back of a CD to try to get it to work? yes.
  • Ever been in a car wreck? once with a parked car (not much damage), once with a pillar in the Boston Common garage (just needed a new headlight afterwards), and once this past November (got t-boned by a pregnant lady turning left right into my car).
  • Were you popular in high school? like, of course. totally.
  • Have you ever been on a blind date? yes. and we're getting married!!!
  • Do you have any friends that you've known for 10 years or more? just a couple.
  • Have you ever made a mistake? who hasn't?
  • Are you a good tipper? I like to think so. Sometimes even when they aren't the greatest at serving. 20% is good, right?
  • What the most you have spent for a haircut? I think it was about $220...but that included the dye job, too.
  • What song do you want played at your funeral? "Another One Bites The Dust" by Queen
  • Beatles or Stones? the Beatles
  • Do you have any phobias? not that I can't think of right now
  • If you were an animal, what would you be? a polar bear. they're lazy, right?
  • Would you rather be blind or deaf? Blind. I would miss hearing things too much. Music. Laughter. I'd rather have my hearing and just get a seeing-eye dog.
  • Do you have any special talents? uh...I think I'm kind of creative at times.
  • What do you do as soon as you walk in the house? drop my keys and sunglasses on the table in the entry way.
  • Do you prefer horror or comedy? comedy.
  • What is your favorite sport to watch? baseball...especially when it's the Cubs or the Red Sox
  • Are you named after anyone? one of my mother's childhood friends was named Theresa...so was my great grandmother.
  • Do you sing in the shower? if I'm not in a hurry.
  • What is your favorite holiday? Thanksgiving
  • Have you ever caught a fish? oh yeah.
I know. Not the deepest of questions. But I found a bunch of survey questions online and thought I'd share my answers.

Ok. Now I REALLY need to find a job. :o)

twilight

I apologize in advance and wanted to let you know that I will try to limit my talk of The Twilight Saga because I believe it is akin to my liking of the CW's Gossip Girl. But I just want to throw the information out there for those of you who have no idea what this is.

Basically, I had no idea what these books were, who they were written by; knew nothing about them. However, every time I was in a bookstore, I would see these books on display and the cover design always intrigued me (I'm a sucker for a good cover design).

Side Note 1
I give major props to the Stephenie Meyer marketing team
because if they hadn't been on display in every bookstore I went to,
I would have never even given these books a second glance.

Side Note 2
Stephenie Meyer is the author of these books, and is also from Phoenix.

Anyway, I picked up the first book, Twilight, and didn't really read the cover or anything. Just bought it. Like I said, I'm a sucker for a good cover (or, at least, what I think is a good design). And when I brought it home, Joe read the back and, with a semi-baffled look, read part of what it said.

"A Teen People 'HOT LIST' pick?" he said questioningly and (kind of) mockingly, in reference to the "teen" part.

I kind of chuckled, shrugged my shoulders, and didn't really respond. After all, Joe thinks I'm a freak already and, also, I wasn't really expecting to like the book much.

But I did.

A lot.

So I went out to buy the other two books in the series (New Moon and Eclipse) and finished them within 3 days. Keep in mind these books are at least 500 pages each.

What surprised me about this whole experience is just how big it actually is. There are oodles of websites devoted to these books and the characters in them. I mean, just Google the word "twlight" and you'll see what I mean. Even though the subject matter is different, it appears to be similar to the hype that always surrounds the Harry Potter franchise.

The final book of the series (Breaking Dawn) will be released this Saturday AND they already made the first book into a movie and it will be premiering sometime in December, so those are a couple things I'm looking forward to.

Anyway, check them out if you'd like. Or just laugh at me and say, "Ok, Theresa. Sure. I'll get right on that."

all things joe + theresa

I thought that I would take a minute to update everyone on life in T & Joe Land:
  1. This weekend was so relaxing! Saturday was fun. All we did was sit around, relax, play with Lucy and relax. Yes, we did pretty much the same thing the previous weekend, but sometimes it's just really good to do nothing, you know? And then Saturday night we met up with my friend, Lindsay, from grade school and her husband, Michael. I hadn't seen her since I was about 14 years old, so it's kind of like we have to get to know each other all over again since there is a universe of things that have happened since we last saw each other. But she's just so easy-going and fun to be around, so we all had a blast! Let's do it again sometime, Linds!!
  2. Joe and I started to attend Evenings for the Engaged. Our first session was last night (Sunday). I gotta say...neither of us wanted to go. First of all, it's at 6:30pm on a Sunday night, lasts for 2.5 hours and is way out in East Mesa (about 45 minutes from the apartment). Plus, Joe has to get up really early for work, so we were just in a bad mood about the whole thing. Plus, we had this vision of crazy Jesus Freaks praying and chanting in circles and telling us how to live our lives. Ok...so that was MY vision. But on the way there, we were thinking, "you know...I bet the other couples attending these sessions aren't really thrilled about coming either...so let's just keep an open mind and give it a shot." Turns out, the couple hosting the session was pretty laid back and even funny at times, the other couples seemed really nice (there were 5 other couples in addition to us), there was nothing really Jesus Freaky about it (except all the crazy pictures on the walls), and the time actually flew by once we got there. And the group, as a whole, decided to start meeting a little earlier on Sundays. So that was cool. I think it will be an interesting experience and, actually....I'm looking forward to it!
  3. As for everything else: Joe is still on dialysis for a few more months until he gets his new kidney from Jen - I am still working as a graphic designer part time and looking for full time work (if anyone has any contacts that may need work, LET ME KNOW and I'll get you my resume) - Lucy is wonderfully cute as always (although...she gained 2 pounds in one week so it looks like I'll have to start walking her more than 2 miles a day) - and life (besides the crazy heat) is just...good.

knight of darkness

Since the ONLY things Joe and I wanted to do this weekend were: relax, read, swim, relax, spend time with Lucy, sleep, eat, relax, read, relax [and did I mention relax?]...we decided to spice it up a little and go see the new Batman movie.

BAD IDEA!

SATURDAY
We got to the theater an hour before the show started (for those who know us well, getting somewhere that early is monumental!). To no avail, the parking lot was full. I figured, "Okay...it's a Saturday night and it just came out the day before. This sucks, but no big deal, we'll come back tomorrow."

SUNDAY
Read the first 2 sentences of the Saturday description.

I was PEEVED beyond belief at this point and decided that I hated EVERYONE!** I was so confused because: (1) the movie theater we go to is never ever even 0.0001% full on Sundays and (2) I couldn't figure out why so many people were there. I mean...yeah, it's summer time and a nice thing to do on the weekends (staying somewhere indoors because it's so hot outside), but the garage was full two days in a row? Come on, people!

CONCLUSION
Only two movies (that I know of) opened at the box offices on Friday: The Dark Knight and Mamma Mia. I actually DO want to see Mamma Mia and generally I really enjoy when musicals are made into movies, but there's NO WAY that the place was jammed packed two days in a row for Mamma Mia. Sorry Meryl Streep...no offense.

OTHER CONCLUSION
I know there's talk of Oscar nominations for Heath Ledger [already]. And I'm really glad that he was able to have such an awesome performance (or so I hear) be his last. Plus...I've liked most of his films for the past 10 years (ever since 10 Things I Hate About You first came out). But I'm thinking I might just wait for video on this one. Especially since I don't think the hype will die down any time soon. Seriously. It's just a movie. Not the second coming of Christ.

**I'm not really a vile, hateful person. I just sometimes get really annoyed and flustered easily.

see...it DOES rain in Arizona!

For those of you across the country and elsewhere, we're not sure if you've heard anything about "Monsoon 2008" in Arizona or not, so we'll shed a little light 0n what's been going on over the past 48 (or so) hours:

One night last week when Joe wasn't scheduled on dialysis, we both took Lucy to the park after it started to cool off a bit (by cool off, I mean it got down to about 100). So we went to the park and on the way, it started to sprinkle a bit. We didn't think it was a big deal. So we got to the park and noticed that almost everyone was taking their dogs and leaving. Since the rains in Phoenix usually last about 10 minutes and then stop, we thought we'd wait it out. But oh no.....this is NOT the case during Monsoon Season because about 10 minutes later we saw the heaviest rain I have ever seen since then. Heavier rain even than I ever saw while living in Boston! Lucy was having a grand time running around like crazy in the rain with her mouth open while Joe and I and a few other dog owners took refuge under a tree. The tree didn't really shelter much since the rain was coming in all directions, though. All was good and Lucy was having a blast...until we started to see lightning and decided to get the heck out of there. When we got home, plastered all over the news were bits about "Monsoon 2008". Those of you from other parts of the country might chuckle at the attention they give to rain here. Yes, it does happen very seldom...but when it pours, there's just no hiding from it...especially since the drainage in the Phoenix area is terrible.

Flash forward to this past weekend. We had a little family reunion of sorts on Saturday. My aunt Sharon was visiting from Georgia, my aunt Diane was visiting from San Diego and my Uncle Harry and his family (who live in North Phoenix) were visiting as well. It was the first time in about 7 years that we were all together. So we decided to get together again on Sunday. Joe was out picking up Princess Lucy from the groomer when everyone came over. Then the rain started to pour. First the backyard was a huge puddle. Then all of the planters filled up with water. Then one yard was overflowing to the next, the planters started overflowing into the pool and the flooding began. It was pouring for a good hour to an hour and a half. It definitely blew the night at the dog park out of the water (no pun intended) and became the craziest rain storm I've ever seen. After about 1.5 hours, the pool was full and, with that, it was full of dirt, leaves, etc. from all the planters and from the yard. Meanwhile, Alanna came home from work and told the crazy story of her trying to navigate home and she said how our whole neighborhood was flooded. So we decided to take a walk. I brought my camera and this is what we saw:

The streets and the sidewalks are not even distinguishable.
Even parts of people's yards were under water!

Mom at the end of the street.

Neese, Kaci and Mom wishing that we had some canoes!

Our cul-de-sac was a lake! You can't even see the sidewalks!

And our poor pool filled with mud, leaves and YUCK!
[this was after they started pumping the water OUT of the pool]

And, finally, comes the story of Joe and Lucy...who were stuck on the highway for about 2 hours. Joe was bringing Lucy back to the house so that they could enjoy the rest of the afternoon with the family, but got caught in this:

Apparently, one of the underpasses on the highway (about 7 or so miles from the house) was completely submerged and no one could get through. This is where they were stuck for 2 hours. Joe said that all the cars were stopped and could not get anywhere. He said that people on the far right eventually started to flip u-turns and travel the wrong way down the highway, but Joe was stuck on the far left...kinda hard to turn from where he was. There was one point, I guess, when some people even started to play football while stuck on the highway! Eventually, he said, that police men came, telling people to just turn around and drive the wrong way down the highway to the nearest exit. So finally, cars started leaving and eventually Joe was able to turn around. But yeah...poor guy. He and Lucy were definitely glad to finally get out of the car.

So for those who are nonbelievers....SEE....it DOES rain in Arizona!!
